Over the course of a year ( 2010 – 2011 ), a founding member of PRIMARY & the notorious Miami mark maker “PUCHO” had the pleasure of traveling together weekly from Miami to Ft. Lauderdale. On average, their 35 minute commute consisted of dialogues where the state of Miami graffiti and street art was a topic in question. Somewhere in these undocumented, private communications, a bond was developed & a common foundation was established . . . A passion for vandalism.
Both having grown weary of the mural movement that had long been appropriated by the surrounding business communities and luxury brands, the conversation soon found itself on darker grounds. Here you were guaranteed to find that a small action has the strength to summon a massive response, simply by leaving one’s mark on another man’s property. A treasured way loved by few and hated by many.
You could argue that this project is not truly an act of vandalism. Good for you. No one cares.
At the end of the day this is not an attempt at convincing the public to consider this project a work of art. This is a project that is recognizing a bold response to living every day. This “act” is a conversation being had between an elite group whilst delivering a general message to the illiterate masses and executed by “us” in celebration of one man’s dedication to fucking shit up.
